Hi all…while checking out the “Toward the Creation of a Canada Water Agency” discussion paper a couple of weeks ago, I came across a data source in the reference list that I was unaware of. It is a Statistics Canada searchable database that lists drinking water plants by treatment category, characteristics of water treatment plants, population served, operation and maintenance costs (split into categories), and total potable water volume (split into surface water and groundwater) for the years 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017.

Statistics Canada. (2020b). Potable water volumes and population served from drinking water plants, by treatment category. Government of Canada. Retrieved from: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/cv.action?pid=3810027001

Rather than trying to correctly name a ‘treatment category’ (at least initially) click on the checkbox for ‘select all items’ and hit ‘apply’. This gives a complete list of treatment types for which there are data. Below is an example.
